How is the weather?
Winters in Yachats are typically stormy — providing an ideal time for storm watching. Breaks between storms, however, often offer up to 70 degree, sunny days — even in the winter!
Evening weather is mild, with temperatures rarely dipping below freezing.
Summer is wonderful with temperatures in the mid 70s with full sun. Night temperatures hover in the comfortable 60s. Seaside weather conditions keep the air comfortable and cool. Visitors are encouraged to bring sweaters, even in the summer months.
How close is the beach? You can't get much closer! The property overlooks a wide, clean, sandy beach ideal for beachcombing, kayaking, skimboarding, and more.
The water is shallow and safe for swimming though river and ocean water can be chilly. The south end of the beach turns to a dramatic rocky shore, providing excellent tidepool explorations.
When do the whales migrate by Yachats?
Whales typically migrate through the Yachats seas between mid-December to January, and return with their calves around the third week of March. Whales are often spotted year-around as there are a few “residents” in the area. Nearby Cape Perpetua also offers a great lookout.
Are there restaurants nearby?
Yes, the village of Yachats is just over the bridge (1/4 mile) and offers a wide variety of dining choices. While the Shamrock does not have a dining room, you can find a list of restaurants at www.yachats.org.
Should we bring our bikes and fishing poles?
Yes! The Yachats River Road is an excellent bike ride, and also provides a nice, leisurely tour by car.
The Yachats River is abundant with fish during the salmon run. Fishing charters operate out of nearby Newport and the crabbing is great year-around in Waldport (just eight miles to the north). Crab trap rentals are available at the dock. At this time, there are no shops offering bicycle or fishing gear rentals.
Is there a market in town?
Yes, the Yachats Village Market is a small but mighty store to fill your grocery, wine and beer needs. The nearest liquor store is in Waldport (eight miles north).
